Powerhouse proudly presents one of the best Korean singers of our time, Kim, Bumsoo. The show is set for Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Nokia Theatre LA Live.
Ever since his debut in 1999 with his first album Promise, Kim is highly regarded as an iconic singer with outstanding vocals in which he was able to take the 51st spot on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2003 with his hit, Hello Goodbye Hello. He made history by being the first Korean pop singer to ever be ranked on the chart.
Soon after his unprecedented international success, Kim’s emotive voice captured the heart of millions of fans again. ‘Bo-Go-Ship-Da’ (I Miss You), an original sound track from the famous Korean drama, Stairway to Heaven, garnered in huge success also becoming the peaking point of his career.
Catherine Chan, critic and writer, remembers Kim’s songs as a 'sentimental lovers' favorite,' describing how they brewed together all the ingredients made for the perfect ballad: a tender voice, a soothing melody, and dreamy lyrics.
Kim continues to do performances in several countries within East Asia, but also in other parts of the world—notably in North America, where Korean pop culture (drama and music) has skyrocketed in popularity within the last decade. Past events have been held in Hawaii, New York, Los Angeles, and Boston, as well as in parts of Canada.
After completing three years of mandatory military service, Kim returned to his music career in 2008 with his sixth album, The Practical Usage of Sadness. He was able to deliver several powerful ballads on this album, while also branching out into new genres through country tunes such as ‘My Love.’
His career made a dramatic hike earlier this year when he decided to appear in the popular Korean reality TV series, ‘I am a Singer’. For the first time, he became nationally recognized, and, throughout six months of appearance, he showcased a wide range of musical talents by singing ballad, R&B and rock numbers that later dominated the K-pop charts for several months.
