Concert Information
The Koreatown Youth & Community Center (KYCC) is proud to present its 35th Anniversary Benefit Concert along with the Korean American Music Foundation and Korean American Women’s Association. This concert is the 9th annual benefit concert for KYCC and will be held on Thursday, August 5th @ 7:00PM at the highly esteemed Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles. The performers for the night will include Kim Tae Woo (K-pop star), Kang Eun Il (Haegum), Rhee Young Mee (Piano), Lyris Quartet and Friends, Korean American Youth Symphony, Busan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and Kim Seung Ju (Music Director). Come and join us in celebrating 35 years of dedicated service to our community!
Performers
TAE WOO KIM / KPOP ARTIST
Kim Tae Woo originally debuted as the lead singer of popular boy band g.o.d., which became one of the most popular groups in the 2000s. Although he did guest vocals for other artists, he did not release his own solo album titled “Solo Special – The Words I Want to Say” until October 26, 2006. Kim Tae Woo often appeared on variety shows including Happy Together: Friends.
As of November 2006, he has sold 26,506 copies of his album, which is listed as a "special album”. On March 20, 2007, the artist enlisted in the army to serve his mandatory military service. He returned into the music scene in 2009, releasing his album "T-Virus" on September 3rd. He also currently serves as a permanent cast-member of the KBS Variety Show, Invincible Youth.
SEUNG JU KIM / MUSIC DIRECTOR
Seung Ju Kim was born in Korea and began his first violin lesson at the age of eleven with Mr. Hyung-Tae Kim. He won his first recital at the 1982 Pusan competition. Through a scholarship at Han Yang University, he studied violin with John Snow and Taesik Pyoung. He continued his studies in Orchestra, conducting at Claremont Graduate School with Dr. Michael Lamkin. After graduation, he had his debut conducting the Paduca Symphony Orchestra, which began a busy conducting career. He has been invited to many performances such as the Art Ensemble Orchestra, the La Palma String Ensemble, the La Palma Chamber Orchestra, The United Choir, and the OMC Youth Concert. He also played as a principal member of the Claremont Chamber Orchestra with Dr. Lamkin. He served as the principal conductor of the La Palma Chamber Orchestra from 1994-2005, and the Oriental Mission Church Youth Orchestra from 1996-2009, and currently leads the Korean American Youth Symphony since 2006.
